Chris Carpenter on Wheaties box

WheatiescarpenterHas anyone seen former Chiefs pitcher Chris Carpenter on the front of the newest Wheaties box?

It’s pretty cool to stand in the cereal aisle at the grocery store and see the picture of a guy who played in Syracuse on his way to a successful Major League career.  You can’t say that about Tony the Tiger, the Lucky Charms Leprechaun, or Cap’n Crunch.

Carpenter will go down in Chiefs history for taking the mound in the first game at Alliance Bank Stadium on April 3, 1997, but more recently has made a name for himself by capturing the 2005 NL Cy Young Award and helping the Cardinals to the 2006 Word Series Title.

wow, carp was a cheif?!?!?!?! do you know how we eventually lost him, trade or free agency?

Chris joined the Cardinals as a free agent following the 2002 season. Check out his MLB.com player profile – http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=112020 – for more information on his career.

Curious thing about Carpenter-he rehab-ed in AA in 2001 with the Smokies who were dumped by the Jays at the end of the year. The Cards affiliated with the Smokies for two years and Carpenter got to rehab with them again in 2002-albeit as a Cardinal. What a recovery!? Who’d a thought Cy Young back then?
