Kevin Gray, who covers the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats for The New Hampshire Union Leader had a nice article Friday summarizing the Fisher Cats recent homestand.

During a eight game homestand New Hampshire won six games including four comeback wins.  Including games this weekend the Fisher Cats are 12-7 and in second place in the Northern Division of the Eastern League, five games behind Trenton.

Santos_1 After a slow start Sergio Santos has heated things up.  Over his last 10 games Santos is hitting .316 with 7 doubles, 5 HR and 10 RBI and now leads the Eastern League with 6 HR on the season.  Santos has committed 5 errors in 17 games at shortstop.  Arizona Fall League MVP Chip Cannon is hitting just .194 with 3 HR and 8 RBI.

Purcey David Purcey is off to a strong start on the mound with a 3-1 record a 2.81 ERA.  Purcey ranks second in the Eastern League with 28 strikeouts and has show increased control this season, walking just four batters.  Two other Fisher Cat hurlers also have 3 wins, Mike MacDonald (3-0, 2.19) and Jesse Litsch (3-1, 1.19).

In the bullpen 36 year old Rookie Jo Matumoto, a side-arming lefty, started the season with nine plus scoreless innings and currently boasts a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA while allowing just five hits in  10-plus innings.  Jordan De Jong has allowed just six hits and one earned run in over 14 innings while striking out 18 opponents.  Former Chiefs closer Lee Gronkiewicz (1-0, 2.25)has 3 saves in 9 appearances.

Good to see they’re both doing so well. I would love to see those 2 (Purcey and Santos) back in Syracuse, Purcey really is under rated and I hope he gets the call. Santos is still very young and at 23 he has lots of time to get back to AAA.

How about Toronto giving us our first lefty pitcher? Maybe send down Kemp since he is struggling. Great call by Davis to send him in with a 1 run game. Think about that…a struggling pitcher, a pressure situation….yeah good call dude. As much as I thought Basso was bad, we’d be over .500 with him.

Well David Purcey is an option, How about Jo Matumoto, why does Toronto have to give Syracuse a lefty when NH has a handfull of good lefties, Kemp had a great season with his AAA team last year and it’s a shame that he’s struggling like this.

I meant Toronto as the organization, not the actual Major League team. I know they are hurting as is for pitching up in the major league team.
