DEWAYNE WISE
One former SkyChiefs’ misfortune was another’s fortune. When Syracuse fan favorite Ryan Freel was placed on the Disabled List this week, after suffering head and neck injuries in a collision with fellow Reds outfielder Noris Hopper, Dewayne Wise was called up to take his spot on the roster.
Wise was hitting .256 with 7 HR, 19 RBI and 8 SB in 44 games with Triple-A Louisville at the time of his promotion. Dewayne has appeared in 4 games for the Reds so far, but has just one at-bat and is 0-1.
Freel was hitting .252 with 2 HR, 12 RBI and 8 SB in 49 games. Last month the 31-year old Freel signed a two-year extension for 7 million dollars that will take him through the 2009 season.
