July 22nd @ Louisville

It may be raining in Central New York, but the Chiefs are down in Louisville. You can catch the game on NOVA 105.1 FM beginning at 6:45. Scott Richmond makes his 5th start for the Chiefs. Here’s some info on the Canadian Olympic pitcher:

This Season: The righthander makes his second to last start before joining the Canadian Olympic team. Richmond was named the IL pitcher of the week for his effort in his last start five days ago against Durham (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K in a 2-1 loss) Threw a complete game in a 3-0 loss in game one of a doubleheader against Buffalo July 8th.  Richmond allowed just two hits, three walks and one run July 3rd but lost as the Chiefs fell 3-0 against Pawtucket and Charlie Zink. Richmond joined the Chiefs after spending the entire season with New Hampshire up to June 28th…had compiled a 5-8 record in 16 starts with a 4.92 ERA in AA throwing 89.2 IP allowing 89 hits, 30 walks and striking out 84….has had five starts this year allowing one run and one with zero.

Last Season: Spent the entire season with Edmonton of the independent Northern League–was 5th in the league in wins, 2nd in the NL in strikeouts, innings pitched, games started and complete games (2)…also 10th in ERA. Richmond spent the entire year in the rotation after making only 8 starts in the previous two years combined

Career Notes: Owns a 19-29 career professional record (5-10 in affiliated minor leagues, 14-19 in independent leagues)…signed with the Edmonton Cracker Cats (a team managed by former Chief manager Terry Bevington) and played in Edmonton for each of the last three seasons before being invited to spring training by Toronto this past offseason…graduated from Oklahoma State

I think one thing that is pretty cool about Scott is that he did come from non affiliated baseball and that it should be mention that independent leagues are important to keep an eye on. May be a your next sleeper!
