SERIES HISTORY

The Chiefs and Indians meet for their second and final series of the year. Indianapolis won three of four games from the Chiefs at Alliance Bank Stadium April 7-10. The Indians lead the season series 3-1, but the Chiefs have the slight edge in the all-time series 61-60 (.504 winning percentage). In this year’s head to head matchups, Adam Lind drove in 5 of the Chiefs 13 runs. Among active Syracuse players, Robinzon Diaz leads the Chiefs with 2 RBI (1-7). For the Indians, Josh Wilson leads the offense (.364, 4-11, 2 HR, 3 RBI)

 

UNDER .500?

The Chiefs had not been under .500 since they were 6-7 after the game of April 15th. The team had been over .500 every day from April 17th until July 20th. With the loss yesterday, the Chiefs fell to 6-15 in the month of July and 1-7 since the All Star Break. The Chiefs have not entered a game against the Indians this year with a winning record.

 

ROSTER SHAKEUP

The Chiefs, Jays and AA New Hampshire shuffled several players the past two days. On the pitching side, Jesse Litsch was optioned to Syracuse while lefty AAA All Star David Purcey took his spot in the Jays rotation. Three catchers moved around. Erik Kratz was moved from Syracuse to New Hampshire while Brian Jeroloman was promoted from New Hampshire and Robinzon Diaz rejoined the Chiefs after not seeing action for the Chiefs since May 2nd. Chip Cannon was placed on the disabled list to keep the roster at the maximum 24.

 

STOP THE TREND

The Chiefs lost their fourth straight series by losing three out of four in Louisville. The Chiefs have not a won series since taking three of four games against Richmond June 19-22. Since, Syracuse has lost seven series and split two. The Chiefs haven’t won a road series since May 13-16 when they won three of four games at Knights Stadium.

 

LATE LEADS, LATE CHANCES

Of the seven losses after the All Star Break to Durham and Louisville, the Chiefs have either had the lead or the tying run in scoring position in the last three innings in five of them. Syracuse has three blown saves after the all-star break in eight games after having only three in 96 games before the break.
