Here are some tidbits on tonight’s starting pitchers:
Chiefs: Jesse Litsch (1-0, 6.23)
This Season: The righthander makes his second appearance for the Chiefs this season. Litsch had spent the entire season up to July 24th with the Blue Jays, totaling a 8-7 record and 4.46 ERA in 20 games (19 starts). In his last major league start July 21st, Litsch allowed seven hits and six runs over four and two thirds innings in a loss in Baltimore. Litsch was 0-3 in his last four starts with the Jays. The righty won his first Syracuse start five days ago against Indianapolis (7 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 8 K)
Last Season: Litsch started the year with AA New Hampshire, posting a 2.35 ERA in his first ten starts so he was promoted to Toronto. He spent most of the rest of the year (also had two starts with the Chiefs where he allowed just three runs over 15 innings) with the Jays. The rookie went 7-9 with a 3.81 ERA in 20 starts in his first year in the major leagues.
Career Notes: Owns a 23-14 career minor league record and 15-16 career major league record. Was originally drafted by the Jays in the 24th round of the 2004 draft from South Florida Community College. Litsch has not spent a full season at any minor league level rising from rookie ball in 2005 to the major leagues by mid-2007. Not a strikeout pitcher, relies on sinking fastball–has not posted more strikeouts than innings at any level except with rookie level Pulaski in 2005.
Yankees: Kei Igawa (10-5, 3.69)
This Season: The Yankees lefthander makes his 19th AAA start and looks for his third straight victory…won five days ago v. Rochester (6IP, 6H, 2R, 1ER), fired six no-hit innings opening day v. Lehigh Valley, 1-0 in two starts v. Chiefs (12 IP, 7H, 4R, 3BB, 6K))…0-1 with 13.50 in 2 games with NY
Last Season: Started and finished year with New York, making 12 starts with 2-3 record and 6.25 ERA, spent middle part of season making two starts for single A Tampa (1-1, 2.00) and 11 starts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5-4, 3.69)…gave up 25 total home runs
Career Notes: .Owns a career 16-10 minor league record and 2-3 major league record, signed before ’07 season to 5-year contract after a $26 million posting fee to the Hanshin Tigers to negotiate with him, led Central League in strikeouts three times in career
See you at the ballpark!
