August 4th v. Charlotte

The Chiefs open a four game series with the Knights tonight at Alliance Bank Stadium. It’s Munchie Monday which means you can buy a ticket for $20 and get all the food you can eat through the 6th inning in our buffet area down the right field line. The twenty dollars includes your game ticket. If you can’t make it to the ballpark, you can catch the game on NOVA 105.1 FM starting at 6:45. On the field, the Chiefs look to get their first win in Syracuse in a while. The notes on tonight’s starting pitchers:

Chiefs: Bill Murphy

This Season: Murphy looks for his first win in eight starts…lost to Scranton five days ago (3.1IP, 6H, 4R, 3 ER, 5BB, 4K); struck out a career high 12 Bulls in loss against Durham July 20th…shut down Richmond June 22nd (last win) for seven innings (7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K) The southpaw struck out ten allowing two runs and seven hits in seven innings in a loss June 11th against Columbus….Murphy went 4-0 in a 8 start span from April 12th–May 22nd but gave up 11 runs in 3.2 innings May 27th at Richmond…2nd in IL in strikeouts but 1st in walks…beat the Knights May 16th (7IP, 6H, 2R, 0 BB, 9K–only start without a walk). The Spring Training waiver wire pickup pitched a scoreless 7th inning opening day against Louisville to record a hold.

Last Season: Murphy spent most of the year with AAA Tucson of the Pacific Coast League primarily as a reliever…his final eight appearances with the Sidewinders were starts (2-2, 4.05 as starter, 1-1, 3.35 as reliever)…The lefty totaled more than 100 innings for the fifth consecutive season…called up in September to Arizona where he entered ten games (0-0, 5.68 ERA, 6.1 IP)

Career Notes: Owns a 39-43 career minor league record…selected in 3rd round of 2002 draft  by the A’s…has been traded three times in career (from Oakland to Florida 12/23/03, from Florida to Los Angeles (NL) 7/30/04 and from Los Angeles to Arizona 7/31/04)…was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays this past Spring Training…81 of first 87 career appearances were starts, but only 44 of last 129 have been…made major league debut September 3, 2007 for Arizona against San Diego allowing three runs in 1.2 IP.

Lance Broadway

This Season: The Knights righthander makes his 22nd start…lost to Louisville five days ago (4 IP, 10H, 9R, 5ER, 3HR, 1BB, 4K)…no-decision against Chiefs in May allowing 4 R in 6 IP; is 1-3 in last seven starts raising ERA from 3.27 to 4.68….was 5-1 with 1.13 ERA when matched up with Syracuse May 15th

Last Season: Spent most of last year with Charlotte and finished fourth in the International League in innings but also led the league in walks…had September callup to Chicago where he finished 1-1 with a 0.87 ERA in four games (one start)

Career Notes: Owns a 26-27 career minor league record and 1-1 in the major leagues…He was drafted in the 1st round (15th overall) by Chicago in 2005…went to Dallas Baptist and TCU finishing as the Conference USA pitcher of the year (15-1, 1.62 ERA) in final year with the Horned Frogs.
