Kris Benson could be next

Former Pirates number one selection Kris Benson could be the next pitcher signed by the Washington Nationals after his impressive workout in front of many major league scouts in Florida this past weekend.

Benson, now 35, hasn’t been healthy since 2006 when he pitched for the Baltimore Orioles but his agent has declared the former New York Met 100% fit and interested in signing a free agent contract with the Washington Nationals.

Benson agent Gregg Clifton is also the agent for Nationals reliever and former Yankee righthanded reliever Brian Bruney.’s Bill Ladson reports that a deal could happen as soon as Nationals GM Mike Rizzo and Clifton wrap up Bruney’s arbitration case this week.
