Congratulations Roy Halladay!

Halladay, Roy.jpgThe Syracuse Chiefs would like to congratulate former Chiefs pitcher Roy Halladay on winning his second career Cy Young Award today.

Halladay was a unanimous selection and, having also captured the AL Cy Young in 2003 with the Blue Jays, became only the fifth pitcher to win the award in both leagues.  He is also the 16th person to win the award multiple times, joining another former Chiefs hurler with multiple Cy Youngs: Denny McLain, who won the AL Cy Young in 1968 & 1969.
Before embarking on a career that has seen him accumulate 169 Major League wins, Halladay won 16 ballgames for the Chiefs over parts of the 1997 and 1998 seasons before spending the entire 1999 campaign with the Blue Jays.
He returned to Syracuse briefly in 2000 and 2001 as part of his well-documented “re-invention” under the tutelage of Mel Queen.  “Doc” struck out 13 batters in his final two starts for the Chiefs while allowing 12 hits and no walks in 14 innings.  The rest, as they say, is history.
