On the ’10s

I was chatting with someone the other day about one of the former Chiefs from last season.  Nostalgia then overran me.  I couldn’t take control of the situation.

And so, an update on the Chiefs from a year ago:

Hitters:

IF Jason Botts:  At 6’6″, Botts now towers over the Independent Atlantic League as a member of the York Revolution.  He’s got a team-best four homers and has also driven in 13 runs.  Botts is playing alongside former Ottawa Lynx and Norfolk Tide Val Majewski.  Botts plays for Andy Etchebarren, who won two World Series rings with the Orioles.

IF Eric Bruntlett:  Retired.

C Jamie Burke:  Not currently with a team.

OF Leonard Davis:  Released by Blue Jays.

IF Chris Duncan:  Working as an analyst for 101 ESPN Radio in St. Louis.  Seriously.

C Devin Ivany:  .182 with 7 RBI as a reserve to Derek Norris at Double-A Harrisburg.

IF Chase Lambin:  Hitting .211 with a homer and 6 RBI in 35 games for Rochester in the International League.

IF Pedro Lopez:  Not currently with a team.

OF Marvin Lowrance:  Released by the Angels after hitting .150 in April for Double-A Arkansas.

IF Michael Martinez:  Has spent the entire season with the Phillies.  Is currently hitting .219 in 21 games.  Had his first Major-League RBI in his first MLB game April 3rd against Houston.

OF Justin Maxwell:  Is second in the International League with 13 homers and third with a .567 slugging percentage for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  Has a game-winning homer against the Chiefs this year.

OF Kevin Mench:  Seeking employment.

IF/OF Mike Morse:  Hitting .258 with two homers and 11 RBI as a regular for the Nationals.

IF Luis Ordaz:  Will be a coach with Short Season-A Auburn Doubledays.

IF Pete Orr:  A Phillie, too.  .241 in 58 at-bats.

C Wilson Ramos:  Catcher 1(b) for the Nats with Ivan Rodriguez.  Hitting .269 with two homers and eight RBI.

OF Bill Rhinehart:  In Double-A with Harrisburg.  Hit five homers between May 3rd and 10th.

C Sean Rooney:  No team.

IF Josh Whitesell:  Playing again for the Yakult Swallows in Japan.  Here’s Josh:  http://bis.npb.or.jp/eng/players/73375131.html

Pitchers:

RHP Erik Arnesen:  Made one start for the Chiefs.  Has a win and a 2.86 ERA in Double-A with Harrisburg.

RHP Luis Atilano:  Made two starts for Harrisburg.  Allowed nine earned runs in six innings.  Has not pitched since.

RHP Jason Bergmann:  Not on a roster after spending part of spring with Red Sox.

RHP Joe Bisenius:  Has recently joined Double-A Birmingham in the White Sox chain.  Has a save in two appearances.  He’s playing with Chris Marrero’s older brother Christian.

RHP Andrew Brown:  No team.

LHP Jesse English:  Nowhere to be found.

LHP Victor Garate:  Demolishing the Pacific Coast League with New Orleans, the Marlins’ Triple-A team.  Has allowed one run and 13 hits in 21 innings.  That’s a 0.43 ERA.  He’s playing alongside longtime IronPig Mike Cervenak and IL stalwart Josh Kroeger.

LHP Chuck James:  A 1.90 ERA in 16 games with Rochester.  We’ll see him this weekend.

RHP Jason Jones:  No team.

RHP Andrew Kown:  Has allowed just 38 hits in 45 innings for the Giants’ Triple-A team in Fresno.  Five wins.  3.60 ERA.  Good for him.

RHP Dan Leatherman:  No team.

RHP Mike MacDougal:  This guy just doesn’t stop.  Has pitched in 18 games for the Dodgers.  Allowed three runs in more than 14 innings.  Still looks like a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man.

RHP Shairon Martis:  Five starts for Harrisburg, a 3.08 ERA.  Seven shutout innings Tuesday night against the Twins’ Double-A club, New Britain.  His first Double-A games since ’08.

RHP Joel Peralta:  Has coughed up just 14 hits in 22 innings and a third for first-place Tampa Bay.

LHP Atahualpa Severino:  Fallen off the planet.  Still with the Nats, somewhere.

LHP Doug Slaten:  Has compiled a 1.74 ERA in the Nationals’ bullpen in 12 innings and two-thirds so far this year.

LHP Jack Spradlin:  Not on a roster.

RHP Drew Storen:  9-for-9 in saves this year for the big club.  Has surrendered one run in 23 innings and two-thirds.  A special kid.

RHP Stephen Strasburg:  Come on.  Really?  You all know.

LHP Aaron Thompson:  Made one start for the Chiefs.  Now with Double-A Altoona’s Curve in the Eastern League.  Holds a 3.32 ERA.

LHP Ron Villone:  Retired.  Came back to the Nats briefly in the spring.

RHP Jordan Zimmermann:  A member of the Nats’ rotation.  2-4 with a 4.13 ERA.

RHP Zech Zinicola:  Getting ready in extended Spring Training.
