FINDING THE TIME FOR DIAZ AND THIGPEN IN SYRACUSE

MLB.com reporter Jordan Bastian reported this week that the Blue Jays are trying to sort out how catching prospects Robinzon Diaz and Curtis Thigpen will each get enough playing time this season at Syracuse.  One way is to have the players spend time at other positions.

On Monday, Diaz played third base during a minor league game for Toronto and he has experience at second base as well.  Thigpen, who spent time with the Blue Jays last season, has logged some time at third base and first base on occasion this spring also.

LEAGUE OPTIONED TO SYRACUSE

Jordan Bastian of BlueJays.com is reporting that reliever Brandon League, who appeared to be the heir apparent to Justin Spier as the set-up man this season for the Jays, was optioned to Syracuse today.  League has battled a sore shoulder and mechanical difficulties with his arm-angle and has lost velocity.

Former SkyChiefs third-baseman and fan favorite Glenn Williams is one of a few non-roster invitees battling for the final spot on the Twins roster.  Former SkyChiefs’ pitchers Zach Jackson and Corey Thurman were both sent down yesterday by the Milwaukee Brewers.

BARKER AND MOTTOLA BACK

Jordan Bastian the beat reporter for BlueJays.com reported late yesterday that the Blue Jays have signed seven Minor League free agents to contracts including outfielder Chad Mottola and first-baseman Kevin Barker and extended invitations to Spring Training to all seven.  Other players signed include pitchers Geremi Gonzalez, Blaine Neal, Brian Wolfe and Beau Kemp and outfielder Jeff Duncan.  Look for an official release from the SkyChiefs on Monday.
